Black Christmas Playlist

Christmas isn’t Christmas without the ones we love and the music we listen to. We all have stories of the timeless oldies mom and dad would play during Christmas time but we also remember all the words to the more contemporary jams our older siblings would listen to over and over again. The rhythm was a little faster and the songs were mostly centered around bae but that didn’t stop us from enjoying it. These are the songs we remember singing in the annual Christmas assembly during school and the songs that make Christmas with Black families what it is today!

Boys II Men – Let It Snow

This song will have you longing for bae during the Christmas season. That beat with those lyrics keep us in our feelings but it’s such a classic that we prefer it that way.

Chris Brown – This Christmas

The movie was good and so is this song. Chris Brown’s remake of this classic has quickly become a favorite of ours and some of us actually prefer this version.

Mariah Carey – All I Want for Christmas

It’s something about the way Mariah hits those high notes in this one that takes us completely over the top every time. When this song comes on,we literally turn into Mariah Carey no matter where we are or who’s around!

Destiny’s Child – 8 Days of Christmas

This is an all-time favorite. The ladies of Destiny’s Child put a very contemporary spin on what they wanted from bae during their 8 days of Christmas. And we all wanted that too…

TLC – Sleigh Ride

This hip-hop classic reminds us to have a very merry Christmas and we get down to this every time we hear it on the radio. And of course, they play it out every Christmas!

Destiny’s Child – Opera of the Bells

The way Beyonce, Kelly, and Michelle harmonized during this song was crazy and that’s why we fell crazy in love with it.

Kirk Franklin – Now Behold the Lamb

Because we all need to be reminded that Jesus is the REAL reason for the season! We listen to this song throughout the year but during Christmas time, it reminds us to always have a heart of thanksgiving.
