Baecation on a College Budget

As Valentine’s Day approaches, it’s important to do something special for your special someone. But if your pockets are setup like ours, the cheaper the better! The great thing about not splurging on Valentine’s Day, especially if you don’t have it to spend, is that you can use your creative spirit to do amazing, memorable things.

Below find some fun and creative ideas for Valentine’s Day!

Staying Local

Dinner & A Movie (the spiced up version)

Typically Valentine’s Day consists of roses, dinner at a fine restaurant and a good movie, but we don’t all have that type of money. Instead, you and bae should find a recipe for something you both want and cook it together. This is way cheaper than going out, it’s more interactive and you will be able to take pride in the meal you created together. Then you can rent a movie from RedBox or find something on Netflix.

Have an indoor picnic

It is February, so a typical picnic probably won’t be too cozy. Lay a blanket in front of the fireplace (if you don’t have a fireplace, you can find fireplace videos on YouTube, just make sure you dim the lights to get the full effect), play your favorite playlist (I recommend 90’s R&B), grab your food (no garlic or onions lol), and cuddle up with bae.

Game Night

If you and bae are up for some friendly competition, host a game night. It can be just the two of you or invite your other friends that are couples. You can play the classic board games like Monopoly or Scrabble, but if you really want to make it fun play more interactive games like Charades, Michael Jackson the Experience on Wii, or Black Card Revoked from Cards for All People.

If you have a little more money and you want to get out of town, try to find deals on Groupon and LivingSocial for getaways.

Ask the Locals

One way to save money when traveling is to stay away from the tourist traps. Instead, find local favorites that are probably cheaper, and will allow you to get more out of the experience.
